Hello friends!
Lots on my mind this week, but mostly travel preparations as I’m heading to New York soon (ish, still a little over a week away). Here’s hoping this trip is less chaotic than the last (which included missing luggage and an emergency landing in Detroit). Spring in New York always makes me think of my favorite movie, You’ve Got Mail….though I will undoubtedly be looking less like Meg Ryan and more like a lost valley girl wandering Soho trying to find her way to the Tibi store. Am I a complete fool for traveling to New York during Mercury Retrograde…. again? Can’t say just yet, but I will tell you there’s a 100% chance I’m carrying on and packing my chill gummies (I’m obsessed). I’m also reading Debbie Harry’s autobiography, Let’s Face It, which is a wild firsthand look into 1970s New York- highly recommend.
Anyway, let’s get into it!
I’ve been really into closet organizing (got these bag dividers and this belt organizer) and keeping track of my shopping- basically, I’ve been buying a lot of black and white tees and tanks, the occasional red piece and I can’t forget to mention the green sambas from last Sunday’s letter! They just came in- sharing a photo below so you can get a better idea of what the color looks like IRL. Also, I now own these FP pants in four colors! A lot, but I can sleep in them and also layer a white tee and sweater with flats or sambas to look semi-decent at daycare drop-off.
I’m really trying to step up my self-care game. It makes me a better friend, mom, wife, sister, daughter and person when I take time for myself. This week I got a massage and last week I did acupuncture, both of which were great. (pictured above is what I wore to my massage- dress, similar here jacket is vintage, same vibe here. acne musubi midi tote- fits an iPad or laptop!)
I forgot to link the one thing I was MOST excited to share with you all last week, which is this bag! I had been eyeing it for months and just bought it during the Shopbop sale. I love the silver hardware (reminds me of my Khaite Benny belt) and the big zipper. None of my hobo bags were fully enclosed and as discussed here, that is majorly important- especially with a toddler around (she just discovered how to open lipstick, pray for me).
On the beauty front, Goop sent me their new cleansing balm and I love it. No surprise there, because I love all of their skincare products but wanted to share in case you’re curious. I’ll be doing a big beauty round up soon- just waiting to try a few more items.
dress.
Wedding season is approaching! My husband and I have an anniversary party for his parents (35 years! amazing!) and a family wedding in May, then we are wedding free until September. As a covid bride, I debate having some type of anniversary party in the future since we never got to have a big celebration, but that’s TBD! For now I am going to enjoy dressing up and celebrating friends and family. Expect a wedding guest dress edit soon, but if you’re on the hunt now there’s a good selection to be found here.
My best friend told me about the closet app Whering a few months ago (he always knows what’s cool before it’s cool) and now I’m hearing about a similar-ish app called Indyx? Basically, you take photos of your entire wardrobe and use these platforms to build and track outfits. If you’re passionate about either one of these, please share in the comments! Would love to know about your experience. I’d really like to take a day and catalogue my wardrobe but also want to have a rotating closet and a closet app on my computer a la Cher Horowitz. It’s important to dream, right?
(joke’s on me- better price found here.)
Btw, Matches is having a 20% off (select items) sale. Use code OFFER20. I will warn you now, they are NOT accepting returns on some items due to their current situation, so I’d recommend only purchasing from brands you know your size in, or focusing on accessories. I bought some shorts and this leather jacket (but found a better price on another site, so linked to that above) and am trying to resist further temptation.
I think the metallic trend is here to stay, at least in my closet. Silver seems to be everywhere, starting with the Wales Bonner Adidas that are so cool. I’ve been on the hunt for a big silver bag but in the meantime bought this Ganni top and these trainers. Additionally, my first Tory Burch purchase in well over a decade came in the form of these silver heels. They’re comfortable and cool! I’ve admired some of Tory’s recent stuff but never enough to purchase until now. Another notable pair of silver shoes - these Simone Rocha sandals!
Okay, one last thing, Dries has announced his retirement… I am heartbroken but also happy for him! I think he’s really one of the last designers of his kind- never trying to be trendy and always designing vibrant pieces for the modern woman without making it look clinical (the only other designer who consistently does this, to me, is Christoper John Rogers). Even something simple and black, like these heels, would never be considered basic. One of the first things I recall learning about Dries is that he’s a fellow dog person. His Airedale, Harry, (pictured above, passed in 2019) made the cover of DOG magazine and was also mentioned by Dries here in this Harper’s article. There will soon be a day when Dries designed Dries Van Noten is highly sought after, which is wild to imagine now. I recently bought this knit top but I think these might be in my future. I look forward to his last men’s show this summer, where there surely won’t be a dry eye as he takes his final bow. Some reminiscing and speculation on his future replacement here.
Wait I lied.. I also wanted to mention my cute new vase. It gives me another excuse to fill my house with flowers, but looks good without, too. Could also be a good hostess gift for any spring gatherings.
Okay that’s all for now but will be sharing more later this week. Please subscribe if you haven’t already, share with a fellow fashion-lover and tap the heart if you enjoyed reading this.
xx, Liz
PS- I’m trying to get back into the rhythm of posting on instagram again (aka, more than once a month). Thanks for the love on last week’s post.
Such cute silver heels! Thanks for sharing :)
Beautiful words on Dries!
