I’m not the first to praise

Allison Bornstein
styling sessions, but they are a game changer. I brought some great things out of hibernation and maximized my wardrobe by creating new looks I love. Allison and I talked accessories, dressing for the miserable summer heat, and breaking style rules. Here are my takeaways:

  1. you’re (I’m) overthinking it - So many of my questions for Allison were about looks that she simply signed off on. Sometimes you just need to get out of your own head. My only disappointment with that is that I wasted precious moments of our hour on validation.

  2. “Hero” pieces are probably right in front of you - I was desperately searching for the pieces that would complete my outfits..turns out they were right there! I was clueless about what to wear with an Off-White pullover (purchased @ Miami’s Veblen with

    Hey Mrs. Solomon on Style
    ) …bike shorts would make the look too sporty, denim was too casual and I didn’t have a lacy slip that worked with the length. Allison pointed to some white cotton shorts I had sitting out and said what about those? DUH! Easy drop-off/errand look. Secondly, I pulled out this Missoni top and she suggested pairing it with the brown leather jacket I’d shown her earlier. DUH, again! It would also make a great transitional outfit with the white cotton shorts.

  3. Styling for summer & styling for fall - A lot of my frustration with getting dressed right now is that I can’t rely on knits or layers. It’s also too hot for boots. We came up with summer friendly versions of outfits I had styled for Fall. Swapping knits for lighter weight materials like mesh/cotton changed everything!
