On the Noah Kahan song ‘She Calls me Back’, Kacey Musgraves sings “If you think that you can wake me up, then you don’t know how well I sleep”, which really sums up how I feel about everyone saying summer is on it’s way out. For me it’s still alive and well, and the blazingly hot temps in LA would agree. I will not be woken up by retailers trying to sell me stuff from the very made up ‘pre-fall’ season. I’m hitting the snooze button (metaphorically, I am a mom) and enjoying the rest of my summer. Call me in late September, maybe I’ll pull out my boots then.
For me, July went by in a flash. Two trips, then lots of getting settled into the house we moved into roughly two months ago. And it seems August is going by quickly- I am a bit behind in sharing this. I’d blame Mercury Retrograde (btw raise your hand if you’ve had the most chaotic week ever?) but sadly I am a PLP (perpetually late person). Trying slowly, but surely to lose my membership to that club.
So here is a list of my (somewhat random) stand out July purchases - PJ’s, linen, a lamp, a necklace - random and yet reflective of my sleepy summer state.
Two LBD’s!- This is perhaps the most useful everyday dress I’ve ever purchased! It has a shelf bra, isn’t too long or too short (I’m 5’2 for reference) and will look great with a jacket or blazer come Fall. On the other hand this one was a splurge- I plan on wearing it in New York in September and as a no-fail piece when I’m scrambling (happens whenever fancier occasions arise).
Most niche purchase- I really loved the MNZ x J.Crew collab. Everything is cool, and the sheer pieces are perfect for summer. I didn’t feel inclined to purchase anything except for this silver bikini top. It’s more of a layering piece, in my opinion, so that’s exactly how I plan on wearing it! Seen here with my Interior metallic knit maxi.
Linen! - Why haven’t I embraced this fabric earlier? Truly a mystery. As seen in this week’s outfit post, these Donni pants are quickly becoming a wardrobe hero. I also bought a linen tee, this dress and… oh! more pants. Have worn all of these pieces a lot, except for the dress which I took to my tailor today.
Fancy lamp- I will admit, this purchase was completely inspired by the cool Copenhagen kitchens filling my Pinterest feed. The well placed cordletss lamps on otherwise bare kitchen counters were so pretty and useful. This one charges with a USB cord and holds charge for quite some time (so it’s neat and cordless about 95% of the time). Perfect for when I wander into the kitchen to make myself a late night cup of tea.
Pajamas - See post here. I bought this set and these boxers, and I’ve really enjoyed incorporating matching sets into my pj rotation. They make me feel like I have my life together, even on days where I most certainly do not.
secondhand- Y2K Miu Miu bag - Rarely do I pounce on a find like this, but I just loved the color combo and bow detail. I am working on another letter full of real real finds, so stay tuned.
jade necklace. I love this piece. It was
’s idea to pair it with this tank- my session with her will be the topic of my next letter.Gifts - I LOVE buying presents for people. Last month I bought a speckled vase for my mom, this eye mask for my Leo friend, and a Mother hat for my friend who’s expecting.
Pasta bowls- We are a big bowl family- lots of rice bowls, salads and pasta dishes in our house so these have been put to good use. I love that they’re made by Henry Holland, does anyone else remember his iconic House of Holland t-shirts?
& finally, some misses- This looked completely different online, and this crop top gave major milkmaid vibes (on me! it looks great on the model and probably a lot of other people, too).
BTW…
I love this roomier version of The Row’s 90’s bag. very chic.
An easy, under $50 t-shirt swap - this bodysuit. Wore it in black last week and have the red in my cart.
I adore this dress. The mirror details and happy yellow color are a dreamy combo, maybe for a late summer wedding?
Very interesting deep dive from my friend
on Copenhagen Fashion Week and other fun fashion news.I’ve never said much about the viral High Sport pants, mostly because they looked terrible on me (I’m 5’2 and tried the original length!) but
broke down the two length options here- very helpful if you’re debating the investment!
xo, Liz
Happily just bought pajamas -- THANK YOU! And I so appreciate that you share the misses too. Also the Mother hat as a gift! Dream friend. XO.
