What’s on my mind this Monday? Chanel’s show in Manchester- which featured a lot of tweed, odd color combinations and mary-jane flats. I only truly loved a handful of looks- the shaggy jacket giving major Stevie Nicks energy and the deconstructed, acid wash denim set are my two faves. One of my favorite TikTok accounts, Mandy Lee (aka oldloserinbrooklyn), predicted that leopard is the next big thing in fashion for 2024. Personally, I’m delighted to hear this! Not only because I just bought these pants and this bag, but also why did we ever stop wearing leopard? Let’s consider it a neutral.
I also spent some time browsing on TheRealReal and came across this truly stunning backpack that I can’t stop thinking about. I bought this dress from my friend Jami-Lyn’s fabulous store, Modiste (more on that below in a minute) and a metallic polish.
Can we talk about Miu Miu for a minute? Because their shoes are really, really good right now. As in, they truly have something for everyone. These sweet little bow-adorned velvet heels, leopard derby shoes, the coolest Moto boots and denim Birkenstocks?! COOL.COOL.COOL. The jeans pictured above are from Pinterest and I am trying to track them down, tbd on that.
Speaking of Pinterest, that pink & denim look is an all time fave. Love the simple but genius idea of pairing a cropped cardigan with high waisted jeans and topping it off with a solid coat and adorable mini bag (likely would have to be a double bag situation for all my fellow toddler moms out there, but cute nonetheless).
Below, a mini interview I did with my longtime IG turned IRL friend, Jami-Lyn, founder of Nashville’s coolest boutique - Modiste.
Tell us a little about Modiste (and why you guys are, in my biased opinion, so cool).
You are the sweetest! Modiste is truly just a glimpse inside my brain— whether you’re in store or online. I conceptualized it in 2019, and when the pandemic hit and my editorial job ceased to exist, I decided I’d bring Modiste to life! It’s surreal to look at how it began, as an e-commerce based in a guest room in my home to the store it is today in the heart of Downtown Nashville. I am truly so amazed at how it’s been received both in Nashville and online.
I am obsessed with how well curated Modiste’s selection is. What does your selection process look like?
Thank you! Means so much coming from you! When I first began curating Modiste, it was about offering brands and styles that weren’t available anywhere else in Nashville. This is still at the heart of our curation, but as Nashville grows I don’t expect this to remain entirely the case. Much of the pieces I select are rooted in being things you’ll want to keep in your wardrobe for a long time, made thoughtfully and of the highest quality fabrics and construction out there. As we grow, so does the caliber of brand we carry, which is so exciting! We have our first order from JW Anderson coming in soon, which was surreal, because they reached out to us first!
You are definitely one of the chicest people I know. How did you find your personal style?
#honored. I started to find my personal style as I became more comfortable and confident with the person I am inside. I naturally gravitate towards things that make me feel good, and feel confident. The phrase “Look good, feel good, do good” isn’t the most grammatically correct, but I think it rings quite true. I don’t think it matters what’s “in-style,” as long as you’re happy wearing it. I love getting excited about a piece and putting it on after planning the perfect outfit!
What does Modiste have in store for those of us shopping for holiday events?
Anna October will always be a favorite for event wear. The patterns that she’s created over the years are so flattering, and she keeps finding ways to update them so they’re of the moment, but classic at the same time. I absolutely adore the Burgundy Maxi Dress, which is the same silhouette I wore for Modiste’s first dinner party in October. I also adore the Vanda Mini Dress (we’re getting this in white soon, hello brides), and for an elegant ruffle moment, you cannot top the Renata Maxi Dress. An unexpected brown holiday moment? Sign me up.
What’s on your personal Christmas list?
I’ve been dreaming of a vintage watch for some time— my boyfriend has turned me into a monster. He showed me a vintage Cartier Santos with a moonphase on the dial and I just think that is the most stunning watch. He also made me try on a vintage ladies Audemars Piguet Royal Oak in yellow gold at The RealReal in NYC and I am a changed woman.
What 2024 trends are you most excited about and what’s next for Modiste?
There’s a lot of crochets and mesh knits (with embellishments) in our future for 2024, and I am so excited about it. Lots of silhouettes in pale grey, creamy taupes and light wash denim. Also come early 2024 we’re opening Maison Modiste for business, so not only will people be able to wear Modiste, but they’ll be able to live it, too (short-term)! I am so excited about this extension of the brand, and having people stay in a little Airbnb behind our flagship store. Also, we’re going to have some exciting new additions to our brand matrix come 2024— hello Toteme, Coperni & Isabel Marant!
