Hi friends! Did you know the smiley face is over 60 years old? Something I discovered while working on this. Anyway, here’s my non- comprehensive list of things I do to boost my mood when I’m in a funk. Hoping to make monday mood boosters something of a regular series.
Pull out something nostalgic- Whether it’s the first vintage designer item I bought (a Christian Dior men’s flannel), or even the dress I wore when my daughter was baptized, I love looking at pieces that evoke specific memories, but still make sense with my current style.
Wash your face/ take a shower- Maybe this is boring with a capital B, but it works. Especially if you’re upset or have been crying. On my chiller work days (i.e. no zoom calls or leaving the house) I take an “everything” shower, use a simple cleanser (this one, to be exact) and lather on a face mask after. Something about improving my skin (hopefully) while I’m also being productive otherwise is a great feeling.
Create core memories- Buy a disposable film camera (or a real one!) and go to the park with your friends, your kids, your significant other or yourself. Even if you’re not a professional, there’s a certain kind of magic that comes with the surprise of not knowing what you captured and making memories on a day you perhaps would have spent scrolling.
Clean out- This one is mildly annoying at first, but the payoff is worth it. Even if your closet is unimaginably perfect, you probably have a drawer somewhere that could use a little decluttering. Your space will feel lighter afterwards.
Play dress-up- Pick out a few outfits, just for fun. Assuming you read this newsletter because you, too, love fashion (unless you’re my dad or husband) then you probably have some fabulous finds you haven’t pulled out in awhile. What are you waiting for? Shop your closet and find a few new ways to style them.
Delayed gratification- you’ve likely seen me mention this bag numerous times here. I love it (and only link to thinks I feel this way about, btw). I loved it the moment I saw it on Net-A-Porter. It’s not trendy, but not boring, either. The smaller shape makes it evening appropriate but it’s also big enough for poolside necessities. But, for some reason, I kept making excuses as to why I didn’t *need* it. Could I make do with my other bags? Would this make sense with my summer wardrobe, and wardrobe in general seeing as how I live in LA? After a trip to the lake where I realized it would have made sense with every single outfit I packed, I came home, checked out and unboxed it two days later. I audibly gasped when I saw it. YES. This was the bag I’d been waiting for, and now I appreciate it even more.
Find a good book- Don’t judge me for my beach reads! Summers are not for seriousness. I’m on an Elin Hildebrand kick right now. You may or may not have heard but one of her novels, The Perfect Couple, is being turned into a limited series starring Nicole Kidman (trailer here). I can’t wait! Anyway, there’s nothing better than sitting outside with a glass of iced tea (or Ghia, or whatever your drink of choice might be) on a warm summer day with a good read. Highly recommend.
Buy a gift…. for someone else!- Nothing like finding the perfect gift for someone you love. Recent gifts I’ve given include new sneakers for my friend (these, to be specific), new tees for my husband when we were in Miami and this vase and tote for my mom’s birthday this week.
Create a playlist- Sometimes I listen to my daughter’s kids music after I drop her off and then think, wait… I don’t have to listen to baby shark anymore why am I putting myself through this? Make a playlist of your favorite music, no genre required and listen to and update it often!
Unsubscribe- (hopefully not from this newsletter) to bad advice, input or commentary you didn’t ask for. Life’s too short!
Updated Shopbop hearts here. Why is this top so fun?! Love the denim/bow combo.
After not being a rhode skincare girl (just wasn’t for me), I love this stuff - I ordered the hot pink shade, juice box, and am surprised with how much I reach for it already. Adds the perfect flush and I swipe a little on my lips, too.
There are some absolute gems in the FWRD Renew handbag selection.
I’m a carry-on girl for solo trips, and checked bag girl for family travels, mostly out of necessity. I always dread lifting my carry-on overhead, but I’m thinking AWAY’s new carry-on could be the remedy? It’s a lighter-weight, durable fabric material which I’m also excited about because it’ll be easier to peel those pesky travel stickers off of!
I’ve wanted to try U Beauty products for some time! They sent me this moisturizer and I’m hooked. Nice and moisturizing and layers well with the rest of my skincare routine, also gives a little bit of a glow if you are going bare-faced.
If you’re looking for a not boring way to shop the Nordstrom Anniversary sale- I’m planning on starting here.
Anyone else kind of obsessed with this Coach bag Bella Hadid was spotted wearing? Because I am!
Okay, boost your mood and have a wonderful week :) next up I’ll be sharing my Hawaii looks for some summer vacay inspo and my beauty faves (have been working on this one for awhile).
