About nine years ago, I took a trip to Los Angeles on a sunny summer weekend and had an amazing time. I stayed in a fancy hotel and had a few minor celebrity sightings, went to Wasteland with my best friend where I found the perfect vintage Versace dress, partied in the Hollywood Hills and had a psychic tell me I would soon meet my soulmate and have a career in fashion.
Naturally, after all of this, I did the logical thing and decided to move here.
Fast forward 8-ish years later, and I DID meet my soulmate and I have had a career in fashion (I wish I still had that psychic’s card)…. but I sometimes find living in L.A. to be….a lot. And of course I do laugh at 22 year old me thinking her life in Los Angeles would be anything close to that trip (HA! at least my best friend and I still go to Wasteland). As I’ve told my husband, I think I miss being a tourist! Visiting, not worrying about the day-to-day and being able to enjoy the fun, sparkly parts of the city is such a luxury.
You know where I did get the opportunity to do that last week? New York! I love New York for so many reasons and the first one being- it doesn’t love anyone! New York is what it is and doesn’t apologize and there are lessons to be learned from that. (in my case it really said hey I don’t care if you’re from LA, here’s an earthquake!)
This trip started out as an excuse to celebrate my birthday early (everyone you know who is annoying AF about their bday is probably an Aries) and go to the Current Affair vintage show with my sister. I coincidentally got invited to a few events taking place while I was there so it all felt very meant to be, which is wild considering that it’s mercury retrograde. I flew in last Wednesday when it was absolutely pouring! Thunderstorm, etc. My silly, valley girl self briefly wondered if the event I was attending that night would be canceled due to weather. HA! It was packed.

the outfit for the event - ICON denim launch.
How fun is the split hem on these jeans?
Day 1 daytime outfit: Acne set (old, but found the leggings here in red). Miu Miu boots, vintage Jil Sander coat, Alaia Le Teckel bag (couldn’t find black, but I love the neutral options here)
Day 1 nighttime outfit for Shopbop 25th Anniversary party- NBD dress. Miu Miu blazer. Alaia bag.
cropped sweater. Citizens barrel jeans. Jil Sander coat. Alaia flats.
Jacket, tank and sweatpants are vintage. sneakers. hat (on sale with code STYLE).
Shopping:
Tibi- What a beautiful space! I had the kindest sales associate who helped me find my favorite pants in green and a chic white top for summer that I plan on pairing with bike shorts.
Still Here- I discussed this in last week’s newsletter, but the Soho store was cute and cozy with helpful staff and I had so much fun trying on the new collection with my friend Michelle who is an ad creative in Brooklyn and looked absolutely incredible in their new white overalls. (btw, I paid for everything myself- I don’t typically buy the almost entirety of a brand’s new collection but I really love it that much. This is not sponsored, though I wish it was- call me @ Still Here).
Vintage Twin (LES location, but their Soho one is good, too) Listen, I’m trying not to scare my daughter’s schoolmates at daycare drop-off, but I love a good heavy metal band tee. I got a Metallica one that is (relatively) tame.
Reformation (Lower East Side) - I have mixed feelings on Ref because sometimes the fit is off for me, but I tried on that corset top (you know, the one worn by the bachelor girls) and can confirm it fits and lifts and is overall great. This store also has an excellent vintage selection where I found a lacy bebe top, Adidas track pants that weren’t too long on me (iykyk, a common short girl struggle), and an Earth, Wind and Fire tee. My friend Michelle found some gorgeous Celine sunnies and red track shorts. We both left with lighter wallets and heavy totes!
Assembly- Stores like this are a rare find, in my opinion. They have an exciting, well curated assortment of new and vintage. I talked myself out of a Vivienne Westwood tee that I’m still thinking about (clearly) but found a Wynn Hamlyn top that I loved so much I wore it that night!
Treasures of NYC - So, I bought a bag that has been on my moodboard/wishlist for YEARS! (pictured above, on a Whole Foods run with me Monday morning) I have seen it here and there on resale sites but wanted to see it IRL (found one for you here if you love it as much as I do) I am still giddy with excitement over this find. If you’re unfamiliar with Treasures, it’s an appointment only, must-see showroom in Soho for any Y2K fashion loving girly (pictured above with my sister!) Make an appointment here.
Bergdorf Goodman- The Mecca. I just love it here. I walked in to browse the handbag selection, but was a little disappointed so I made my way up to shoes which is, IMO, well worth it just to people watch. Not only do they have a heavy selection of Chanel shoes (loafers, sandals, heels, *those* birkenstocks, etc.) but also some Dries, Loewe and Jil Sander.
Current Affair vintage show- Normally I would dedicate an entire post to this show but I was overwhelmed by the venue and crowd. I bought a black Jil Sander jacket from my favorites at James Veloria and my big buy was a vintage Dior crossbody bag. I’m proud of myself for not panic buying anything that doesn’t serve me- sometimes my downfall at these types of events.
BTW-
Shopbop lovers, rejoice! Their spend more, save more sale is now ON and it’s great (use code STYLE). Some personal favorites include these flats, this Miaou set, the hat I wore in NY last week, this fringe dress, a denim Tibi shirt, these Tibi pants (final sale but oh so worth it if you know your size), a very chic Interior button down, and maybe this necklace if you’re already shopping for Mother’s Day. This is not on sale but I just had to show you the coolest party skirt to ever exist.
In case you missed it- I DID share Sephora sale buys last week in my inaugural beauty post, but most importantly shared a few new, independent beauty brands!
The only thing I have to say about Coachella is this- I can’t wait for traffic to be lighter and LA to be quieter :) But as a mom I would be remiss not to tell you to pack comfy shoes, a portable phone charger and sunscreen.
My friend
did a post on styling all her Phoebe Philo pieces *requested by yours truly* and the outfits did not disappoint! Make sure to check it out here.If you want to be inspired, look no further than these street style snaps of the one and only Zendaya.
This bag lives in my mind rent free. Saw it IRL in NY last week and was a little starstruck (by a bag, yes, I’m insane).
If you live in NY, or are visiting, did you know you can get same day delivery from Net-A-Porter? You must place your order by 10am for delivery by 2, which is pretty damn good. I placed an order around 11 and it was hand delivered to my hotel by 7- !!! For those curious I used a gift card and bought this hair primer, little clutch bag, and tried this eyebrow pencil which I’m now convinced is the best one in the game.
My friend Rebecca of LHLL just made the most perfect, not cheesy going out top! A very hard thing to do, IMO. It’s black, slightly stretchy and perfectly off the shoulder. Wearing mine below. (It is also great if you don’t “go out” and just want to break out of your white tank rut, like me!)
Lastly, I’ll leave you with this thought:

Have you been reaching for the Dior crossbody often? Looks like it would be a great mom bag without being an actual mom bag . . .
What are the checkered heels in the BG picture? They are stunning.
