Los Angeles has looked (and felt) more like Seattle this month and I’ve been COLD! I’ve been making good use of my coats, jackets, blazers and knitwear and have a newfound appreciation for the power of outerwear. A good coat can turn an outfit into a look instantly. Take, for example, the photo above of the girl in the sweatsuit. Without that faux fur, it’s just a sweatsuit! Or, the white tee and jean moment on the left. In my opinion, pretty basic without the long coat. Anyway, I guess you could say I’ve been inspired to browse, so….here are some of my finds!
Barbour x Ganni leopard jacket, Sezane pink bomber jacket. (pictured above)
A delightful leather trench, on sale! very versatile and similar to the long leather pieces seen on many a runway during Men’s Fashion Week this year.
If I lived somewhere with consistent cold weather, I’d buy this beautifully blue wool Stella coat.
Okay, those were both expensive, let’s get into my Real Real saves- what about a majorly marked down red jacket? or a grey Jil Sander parka? if you live in a warmer climate, how about wearing this cropped utility jacket as a shirt? For all my Barbie pink girls, here is a pink prada jacket for over half off retail, with an extra 20% off at checkout! And finally, please someone buy this before I do! It’s dreamy.
Has it been rainy where you live, too? This extremely extra raincoat is mostly just fun to look at, but would help during a downpour.
Speaking of mostly fun to look at, a very cool Saint Laurent motorcycle…coat? Dreamy!
Jackets I bought last year and loved- this denim trench and cropped leather jacket. My two favorite coats are tough to link, as they were both purchased secondhand (one via TheRealReal and another at A Current Affair), but this is very similar to my Jil Sander coat.
If you, like me, are in the market for a classic trench then I think I may have found the one here! This Toteme makes a good case for splurging, though.
Let’s talk budget friendly- My cooler, younger sister owns this under $150 jacket and loves it. So cute with a skirt and tights. More finds include an under $200 navy bomber and this leather jacket that’s perfect for travel (no heavy hardware!).
By the way, I’m on Florida right now visiting family with my husband and daughter. We will be experiencing a variety of climates on this trip, as we will be visiting my in-laws in Georgia on the way home, which will be a bit lot chillier, so I packed an oversized wool coat (similar here) for that. I did do some panic buying once I saw it would be 30 degrees in the morning (it’s currently 80 here), and ordered this beanie and wool scarf.
More on what I packed: I wore my tried and true classic leather jacket on the plane and also packed a sporty, lightweight zip-up (under $100 and gives Tibi vibes!) and cropped blazer. I packed tons of basics - my favorite tank in black and white, and two pairs of jeans- a light-wash pair and baggy grey. I balanced out my streamlined clothing selection with a slew of shoes- flats, loafers, short heels, my favorite boots, platform sandals and, of course, sneakers! I believe we call that overdoing it.
Okay- let’s talk runway for a minute! First, there was Men’s Fashion Week and then there was Couture Fashion Week. The highlights, to me, were the Loewe Men’s and Simone Rocha for Jean Paul Gaultier shows. Jonathan Anderson created an imaginative wonderland filled with leather trenches, psychedelic knits and denim details at Loewe. I don’t think I’ve felt this inspired by a runway show in a long time. I got a squeeze bag for Christmas and didn’t wear it until this week! Why? I don’t know, but now I want the denim one! It will surely be a hit once it hits stores as we’re already going through a bit of a denim resurgence with Louis Vuitton.
One thing about me is I am a huge fan of Simone Rocha and everything she creates. She is really a creative mastermind and about the only designer who can convince me that bows are cool. I’m also a huge Jean Paul Gaultier girl, and her guest collection for him was absolutely stunning! High fashion ballet core in the best way. The way that Rocha reintroduced motifs from Gaultier’s 1994 collection was so clever! VOGUE called the collection “a delicious meeting of the minds”, and I couldn’t agree more. The fact that Kelly Rutherford, aka Lily Bass, was in the audience made it even better!
These shows were (obviously) so so different but they both served as reminders that fashion should be fun! Dress like a ballerina! Save some time and leave your belt unbuckled! Who cares?!
Okay, that’s all from me today. As always, please subscribe if you haven’t already and share with a fashion-loving friend or two if you’re in the mood!
